Jimi’s presence and confidence shine within the original album artwork so this was a great base to work from, yet with this piece I wanted to hint at a softer, more fragile side where he is slightly more dazed in the eyes - either because of toxins or torment. As shown in Amy’s facial detail you will notice that Jimi’s skin is cracking and starting to break up - again something that is quite powerful even more so because he is no longer with us. The colours of the original image have always caught my eye so I have gone for it with this piece to allow for an even more dramatic and ‘cool’ piece that will allow for dramatic embellishing. Another element that I have pushed is the ambience from the original scene, building on the smoke and flame detailing - the smoke more so really does help to portray the intensity of that era working in conjunction with the cracked and blistering background detailing that suggests a darker side.
